What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant.
There are two types of cannabinoids: endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids.
Endocannabinoids are naturally made in the body.
Phytocannabinoids are extracted from the cannabis plant.
The compounds in cannabis are the only known plant-sourced compounds on the planet that interact with receptors found in the endocannabinoid system, which networks throughout the brain and body.
There are over 150 different types of cannabinoids in cannabis, with THC and CBD being the most abundant.
How Does CBD Oil Work?
In the past 50 years, scientists have discovered that our bodies have a system that is solely dependent on their interaction with cannabinoids. In fact, our bodies were designed to work with cannabinoids.
Phytocannabinoids, including CBD, stimulate the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for constantly maintaining balance at the cellular level.
CBD works to create homeostasis (brain/body balance). Homeostasis results in reduced pain and inflammation, and overall better health.
CBD contains the relaxant properties of the cannabis plant and is potentially effective for anxiety.
Naturally, our bodies produce billions of cannabinoids a day, particularly anandamide, the “bliss molecule.” Anandamide is responsible for the "runner's high" athletes experience. Unfortunately, our enzymes destroy these feel-good internal substances. CBD blocks these destructive enzymes and allows the positive anandamide to remain.
Interest in CBD has grown exponentially in recent years because recent research is proving that low doses of CBD improves physical health and also helps prevent cancer, autoimmune disorders, epilepsy, and Dementia/Alzheimer's.
